How (do) Realtors Help?

Friday, March 16th, 2007

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) created a campaign called HowRealtorsHelp.ca to help educate home buyers and sellers on the benefits of using a Realtor. It is an interesting use of flash and video in an interactive format. Check it out.

Condo Security

Friday, March 16th, 2007

I have seen it a couple of times in my building where the fire department is outside trying to gain access into the building to attend a 911 call. Both times, they were let in by someone leaving the building. Does not seem like a very good system.

The CBC ran a story this morning - police seek easier condo access
Vancouver Police have “Project Access” which documents how Police are trying to gain access to condos

Their plan is to have a lockbox outside the building that Police have access to. Seems like an ok strategy… but here is a more high tech solution that could get the job done without having keys outside the building.

What is your condo doing to solve this problem?

MEDIA RELEASE

Ubertor Changing the Face of Real Estate Software

Launch of the new Ubertor.com introduces new features, reduced fees

(Vancouver, BC. Mar 10, 2007): The founders of Ubertor, a Vancouver, BC based real estate software company, have rolled out a number of new features that will make their product even more accessible to Agents. With the changes to the software comes a new version of www.ubertor.com, the company’s website.

Among the changes is that they have made their blogging platform available in all versions of their website software. “It was something that we agreed was very important,” said Ubertor Co-founder Stephen Jagger. “The importance of real estate blogging has significantly increased over the past few years.” Now with all Ubertor plans, Agents can try their hands at the growing marketing phenomenon that is blogging.

Also part of the new roll-out is the release of “Ubertor Light,” a low-cost introductory version of the software, aimed at new agents. “It’s meant to help rookie agents get started within the changing real estate market,” said Jagger. “We’ve included rebates and cash back incentives for those that participate as well.”

Ubertor now powers real estate websites in several countries, and all over North America. The software system is designed to make it easy for Agents without prior internet experience to manage their web presence and listings, including: slideshows of images, web content, virtual tours, property “comparables,” a blog and even micro-sites to feature single properties. To introduce the new changes, Jagger and Ubertor Co-Founder Michael Stephenson are waiving the set-up fee on all sites.

More information on Ubertor can be found at the new www.ubertor.com, and also on the Ubertor blog at http://blog.ubertor.com.

Location, Location, Location - Video

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Concord Pacific is promoting its new condo development with a video that does not even talk about the building. It is just pushing the location that the building will be in. This theme is catching on.. .using video to promote real estate without really promoting the real estate itself. Here is Concord Pacific’s video about Gastown:

All Realtors should drive BMWs

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

BMW and Google seem to have a new feature where you can send your Google Maps search to your BMW. Would work well for agents visiting multiple locations, save paper, plus be quite cool.

I also like how BMW and Google have released videos on YouTube to promote the feature.

Summary of the March Real Estate Tech Meetup

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Tonight was the Vancouver Real Estate Technology March Meetup and it was our biggest yet. At last count there were over 75 attendees in the room including a few from San Diego! We had the pleasure of welcoming Cameron McNeill to the stage who is the co-founder of MAC Marketing Solutions. MAC Marketing, with their developer client Cressey created a 5 series web based show that was an outside the box, “purple cow”, marketing masterpiece that caught the attention of the world wide blogging community, international press and the attention of the real estate community. Cameron spoke about the idea, how it came about, the costs involved, the risks and the exposure that they received from this marketing move.

For your review, here are the links discused tonight:

- DonovanLife - A made for web TV series about a woman’s life in Donovan, a downtown Vancouver condo development. A kind of “Sex and the City” meets “Will & Grace.” - All 5 episodes here

- We also showed Ian Watt’s use of video and Meebo as a way to gain “stickiness” for his website. Check out Ian’s website here and his real estate channel on YouTube here

- Tom Davis was the lucky winner of our door prize tonight. He took home a copy of The Purple Cow written by Seth Godin
