Which Realtors Are Doing Business? Which Are Not?

1000wattconsulting.com is reporting that “in a couple weeks, the Houston Association of Realtors will launch a Web application that allows consumers to see which Realtors within their chosen search area are transacting business – and which are not.” (complete story here)

With all of the changes happening in the real estate world, what do you think of this idea?

My 2 cents: I think it is a cool idea. More information when choosing an agents is always welcome. While doing the most deals is not necessarily the more important piece of information, it is a piece of the pie that will help consumers choose. Other important points could be: average dollar value of properties sold, area, type, etc.

The downside will be for new people in the industry, but I’m sure there is a way to make it work so that you can get some “deals done” in an apprentice sort of role. What do you think of Houston’s new App idea?

  1. It is a great idea from a customer’s perspective, but some realtors (especially the less busy ones) will undoubtedly complain that this kind of information will be detrimental to their businesses. We”ll have to wait and see how this one pans out, especially in view of the current market being in turmoil.

  2. John says:

If my goal is to have, say, 2 transactions complete each month, does that make me an inferior REALTOR®? Of course not!

Completed transactions by itself is a meaningless indicator and can actually be misleading. If as a profession we’re finally trying to provide a meaningful metric that the public can rely upon then the number of expired listings should also be included.

IMHO, even DOM and list vs sale price are useless metrics.

  3. I think it is a great idea. There are too many Realtors pretending to do business in the luxury market or certainly luxury neighborhoods who have no experience in that arena. It will be great to see who the real players are and who are the pretenders.
