“A” is for August

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I was walking through Yaletown in downtown Vancouver the other day and I saw this sign outside of a real estate sales center. The type is a little small, but it says:

“A” is for August, please come inside for more details”

What do you think about this marketing?
Would you go inside to find out more details about August?

Drop your thoughts into the comments.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE - I went inside and asked the question about this sign. You can see the details here in the comments.

VIDEO From Monday Real Estate Tech Meetup

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

We shot a video of the presentation that I did at the Vancouver Real Estate Technology Meetup the other night. If you missed the event you can watch the presentation below.

This video below is a quick shot of the room about 30 minutes before we got started. At presentation time, there was just over 100 people in the room.

Here is my presentation. The presentation was designed to showcase online tools that Realtors can use in this changing real estate market. Lots of people asked after the presentation how they can learn more about these tools and quite a few of them are taught in Reachd classes. Here is the presentation:

Thanks again to Ubertor, Reachd, RealtySupport and Kuni Design for setting up tables for our mini trade show at this meetup. Overall it was a great success and looks like we will be doing that again.

Also, congratulations to all that won prizes in the door prize draw that we did at the end of the presentation. We gave away an Anthony Robbins DVD, some gift certificates to Goldfish Restaurant and Gordon Lau at the Vancouver Real Estate Board was the happy winner of Gary Vaynerchuk’s signed book “101 Wines”.

Lastly, here is some feedback that was received after the event:

Barbara Corcoran’s Top 4 Tips for Sellers

Friday, August 1st, 2008

4 Tips from real estate legend Barbara Corcoran (watch the video here):

1. Price your home 10-15% below the competition. Buyers are attracted to the best deals in town and you can get the sale price bid up, even in a down market

2. Get rid of your stuff and stage the home. One of the biggest problems is clutter.

3. Hire a “killer” broker, one who is a specialist in your market and housing type and consider paying a higher commission (8%) when the market is tough.

4. Don’t ignore the first buyer offer, even if a lowball. Buyers feel obligated to lowball. Engage the buyer and counteroffer.

Thanks to Joseph from Sellsius for pointing it out.
